That's just wrong

In Noah's a few minutes ago, an employee beckoned to two customers to approach the counter. He had bad news for them: the chocolate chip bagels they had ordered were temporarily out of stock.

  1. Out of bagels so early in the morning?
  2. Chocolate chip bagels?
  3. The customers wanted chocolate chip bagels?
  4. People buy and consume these things?
  5. WTF?!?

A victory for marriage!

California Supreme Court does the right thing.

State Supreme Court says same-sex couples have right to marry

(05-15) 10:24 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Gays and lesbians have a constitutional right to marry in California, the state Supreme Court said today in a historic ruling that could be repudiated by the voters in November.

In a 4-3 decision, the justices said the state's ban on same-sex marriage violates the "fundamental constitutional right to form a family relationship." The ruling is likely to flood county courthouses with applications from couples newly eligible to marry when the decision takes effect in 30 days.

The full text of the ruling is available here.

(I'm hardly unbiased on this one - Terry Stewart is a family friend who argued on behalf of the City of San Francisco against the marriage ban, and my dad's law firm did some pro bono work on the case)

Not the nicest reaction on my part...

But when I saw this article about how a private school has temporarily shut down because of a whooping cough outbreak, all I could think is "See? THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD VACCINATE YOUR CHILDREN, YOU IDIOTS!"

The school has an "unusually high number of children" who have not been vaccinated against whooping cough, which is also known as pertussis, health officials said. California law allows parents not to have their children immunized against the sickness.

How many of those parents were thinking "Oh, we go to a GOOD school, we won't be around germs?" Think maybe they'll reconsider their stance?

but I just couldn't resist this one. (I actually particularly like the last 5 seconds)

if this pans out...

Can this be as good as it sounds? An add-on for your conventional car that converts it to a hybrid for less than $4,000?

I'm still waiting for my hybrid station wagon, though!

Newsweek. GRRR.

Stupid Newsweek stupid magazine cover STUPID.

Argh.

OK... attempting to be more coherent. "Obama's Bubba Gap"? Arugula vs. beer? Must they promote the Clinton and Rove talking points so enthusiastically?

And speaking of the latter... ew.

Former President Bill Clinton was in West Virginia on his wife's behalf. In Clarksburg, he called her a scrapper and contrasted her appeal among working-class voters with the elitists he said support Obama.

"The great divide in this country is not by race or even income, it's by those who think they are better than everyone else and think they should play by a different set of rules," he said. "In West Virginia and Arkansas, we know that when we see it."

Yeah. This "elitist" voted for "Bubba" in 2002 and 2006... bleh.
